Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a social worker and a therapist or psychologist?

Psychologists offer their clients diagnosis and help identify the care they need. Social workers help individuals access that care and/or the resources they need to get it. They do this by acting as an advocate and liaison between family members, outside services (like healthcare, housing, financial aid), and legal systems, offering their clients education and advice along the way.

I thought social work services were meant to be free. Why do I have to pay for this?

While free or subsidized social work services are available through many agencies, the current reality is that many organizations have long waitlists or only offer short term support. Often, social workers in these situations may be responsible for over 100 clients. The social workers on our team are ready to start working for you right now – no time limits, no waits, no overburdened caseloads.

How long will it take to solve my problems?

As much as we would like to be able to give you an exact timeline, we can’t do that. We pride ourselves on offering individualized services, catered to each client and their specific situation. Everyone’s needs (and therefore their timeline) are different. We can assure you that once you’ve completed our initial assessment and received our report, you will be given a clear understanding of how long we foresee your process taking. As you know, there are often multiple people and agencies involved, but you can count on us to use all our superpowers to move the process forward and get results sooner, rather than later.

What if I want to share the information you are working on with other people?

We will be more than happy to share any resources, forms, programs, or recommendations with your doctor or anyone else you might wish us to.

Will my insurance cover your services?

We don’t bill directly to ICBC, but we would encourage you to speak with your insurance adjuster to inquire about a refund for social work services. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you like to speak with us further on the subject!

Do you offer any “package deals”?

Coming soon! Please speak to us if you’d like to buy 10 hours or more of Ongoing Support, for a special discount.

Do you offer sliding-scale prices?

While we don’t offer sliding-scale price options, one of our major goals is to connect you with funding sources that you may not be aware of, or that you might feel too overwhelmed to apply for. This is one of the things social workers do best!

Do you accept referrals?

Absolutely. With sincere appreciation.
